The boat may look and go like a rocket, yet this stability means that Vortex forgives mistakes and builds confidence. The unique tunnel hull design means that the Laser Vortex has much less wetted area than on a traditional sailboat of similar size and is therefore easier to drive through the water - and faster. The hull shape means that the driver is trapezing much further from the centreline of the boat than a traditional singlehander, providing far more leverage. The combined result: more speed, more stability and more exhilaration. The Laser Vortex brings high performance single-handed sailing to everybody. In common with many high performance boats the wave drag of the Vortex is very low, consequently wetted surface drag becomes an increasingly important factor. The unique super slim tunnel hull form of the Vortex combined with the high aspect foils gives a very low wetted surface, which quite simply means more speed in all conditions. Because of the tunnel hull form the centre of buoyancy moves rapidly to leeward when the Vortex heels. This means that not only is the trapezing helm a huge distance from the pivot point but also the majority of the boat's weight is contributing to the righting moment. More righting moment equals more power, more power equals more speed. The Vortex is easy to launch with its own custom trolley, and the tunnel hull shape means that unlike most performance singlehanders, there is no drama when leaving or returning to shore. The Vortex is handbuilt in fibreglass. It's robust, great looking and requires virtually no maintenance. It is extremely difficult to damage the hull, but it can be easily repaired. Every Vortex is supplied with a three year hull warranty. From towing mode to sailing takes 30 minutes. |

| Votrex symmetrical daggerboards are canted in and angled forward (negative sweepback). The windward foil is vertical when the hull skims the surface and works like a gybing boatds. At the same time the leeward foil works like a hydrofoil lifting the boat vertically. The negative sweepback required to make the foils twist induces high manoeuvrability as in a highter aircraft. This combined with a single rudder gives the Vortex its incredible tacking speed. The tunnel is an integral part of the hydrodynamics of the Vortex. The curling bow-wave is forced down the tunnel giving lift. At the same time this interaction gives pitch and stablility when sailing through waves. | |||

| Radical mylar sail, rotating rig, gnav, aluminium aerofoil blades. Unlike most dinghies the rig rotates to give greater efficiency. The Vortex hi-tech mylar sail has a fat head to give gust response but a relatively conservative leech for ease of handling. The Vortex is fitted with a gnav and sleeve luff in the lower part of the sail to reduce aerodynamic drag. The gnav combined with lower shrouds gives precision rig control and provides that extra space in the boat. | |||
