Description

Pacific Wave is a stylish Italian designed and built aluminum mono-hull with an outstanding pedigree. She was built, surveyed and classed in accordance with the rules of the American Bureau of Shipping to the standard of Maltese Cross A1 Yachting. Built for an ex Commodore of Yacht Club Costa Smerelda at a commercial yard in Pesaro Italy (near Ancona) to a design by Georgetti & Magrini in Milan (who worked on the Italian America’s Cup entry) and with a luxurious interior by the famous Milanese architect Gae Aulenti (designer of the Musee d’Orsay in Paris). UK flag and Part 1 commercially registered she has been kept ‘in code’ (licensed) by UK authorities (the MCA) for commercial use up to 60 miles offshore (Cat 2) – twelve persons for day sails, eight if overnight – and run the last eleven years as a successful charter yacht & only ever crewed by the live-aboard owner who is a professional captain. Easily sailed by just two crew this go-anywhere, strong but high performance 72-footer is fully equipped for blue water offshore sailing. Big money re-fits by the most prestigious yards in the UK (Hamble Yacht Services and Pendennis) saw her stripped to metal, re-faired and Awlgrip paint system, along with a new main engine (Caterpillar 3126 350hp), generator (Onan 17.5Kva), and overhaul of all services including air con and refrigeration. Custom interior in a light-colored spruce with a double master cabin at the stern, two twin berth guest suites, and crew forward – all four cabins en-suite. Operated as a charter yacht since 2008, in the Virgin Islands (December to May) and the Grenadines (June to November but lifted-out and stored ashore for annual maintenance in Trinidad during the peak hurricane season of August to October). The best charter year was 2011/12 when she worked 15 weeks and generated sales worth $221,000 USD, excluding crew gratuities of $29,000 USD. Pacific Wave is an exceptional and unique yacht with a current charter business. The yacht’s website www.sy-pacificwave.com and social media links could be included in the sale by negotiation if required.

Accommodation:

The yacht is light and airy throughout with the use of an unusual combination of light spruce woods, stainless steel trim, teak hatch surrounds and white headlining. This look was specifically designed for the yacht by Gae Aulenti, the famous Italian interior designer and architect who designed, among other things: Le Musee d'Orsay in Paris; the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Centre Pompidou in Paris; the Palazzo Grassi in Venice; and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Recent modernization of the interior detailing, and the “head and shower” areas, have improved the yacht even further.

The forepeak, acting as a storage area and workshop with AC & DC power sockets and built-in lockers for spares & tools, is accessed either by the large overhead deck hatch or via a watertight door that leads aft on the starboard side to –

A crew (or guest) cabin, with upper and lower berths, lockers and, via a door to port, to its own ensuite with head (Jabsco - manual/sea water flush) / washbasin / shower area. This area also houses the washing machine.

Aft again on the starboard side a door leads into the starboard guest ensuite with head (Tecma - electric/fresh water flush) / washbasin / shower area - and on again to the starboard twin guest cabin with upper and lower berths. This second cabin opens into the main saloon.

To port forward of the saloon is another twin berth guest cabin and ensuite with head (Tecma - electric/fresh water flush) / washbasin / shower area set forward. All the forward head/shower areas were refitted 2006 in Palma, with the walls refinished with epoxy & a GRP smooth finish for easy wipe down. The head-linings were also renewed in forward areas in 2006.

The main saloon has large L shape seating areas set to port and starboard, port side with dining / coffee table, starboard side with modification in 2005 to a storage box / footrest unit. To port above the sofa is the entertainment center with a Samsung 32-inch LED TV (new 2008) with Panasonic Surround Sound and B&W speakers. There is good stowage and lockers on both sides. Carpets new in 2016, upholstery new 2005 in Palma. Headlining to saloon and aft cabin renewed 2005 at Pendennis. Note – the artwork in the saloon and cabins is specifically excluded from the sale.

The main companionway leads up on the centerline to the large mid cockpit area on deck.

The galley is aft of the main saloon to starboard and is fully equipped with an Alpes (Italian) four-burner propane stove top and oven (new 2012) (with remote solenoid tank closure and gas leak detection), and a microwave (new in 2018). Two aluminum 20 lb. propane cylinders are in a vented draining outside locker.

To port aft from the saloon is the chart table with instruments and electrical control panels for AC & DC systems. Past the navigation area the passageway leads aft to owner's stateroom. From the passage there is access amidships to a well sound proofed engine room. Some systems like the aircon units, fridge compressors, grey water and bilge pumps, & the water maker membrane, are also installed in a separate space forward of the engine room and accessed from behind the companionway steps.

The Owner's stateroom has two generous double berths (widened recently), also plenty of locker space and a washbasin stand on the starboard side. Forward on the starboard side is the ensuite with head (Tecma - electric/freshwater flush) / shower area. There is a direct companionway and hatch to the aft cockpit. The cabin and the head / shower area were refitted at Pendennis 2005, along with new breathable mattresses and under mattress springs by Hulsta. New hatch screens throughout in 2005 (sun shade / mosquito grill).

Deck & Hull Equipment:

Aluminum hull, deck and superstructure using ¾-inch plate below the waterline and ½-inch plate above. Very strongly built - which is reflected in the gross tonnage of 56.72 Imperial long tonne (127,000 lb.). She would be classed as a heavy 72-foot boat but that gives excellent big sea security and a reassuring steady motion, and yet just two crew can confidently maneuver and dock under all situations.

Teak laid deck that requires some attention in high wear areas on the foredeck.

Hull repainted in 2003 in Awlgrip color ‘Flag Blue’ at Hamble Yacht Services. The paint has faded from original Flag Blue color, especially starboard side which has had more sun, but still looks good after Awlcare Protective Polymer Sealer (which is regularly applied). Superstructure repainted in 2005 in Awlgrip color ‘Castle Tan’ at Pendennis and refinished by PaintTech St Maarten in 2012.

Below waterline painted annually in Seahawk Biotin color white at Peakes.

PACIFIC WAVE is a very strongly built, superb sailing yacht which has been set up to sail quickly and easily, with few crew. Her designer interior layout is ideally suited for charter use and is exceptionally light and airy. The yacht benefits from substantial refits and upgrades carried out in 2003 and further in 2005 – the latter being done at Pendennis Shipyard. In 2006 further interior and detail upgrades were carried out in Palma with a systems re-fit in Gosport in 2008.She is MCA classified for charter and she is, quite simply, exceptional.
