Descripción
Vessel priced $80k below appraised value for a quick sale!
"Freebird" is a very special catamaran. She was a trend setting luxury catamaran with a no expense spared interior by Camper & Nicholson. Ahead of her time for the cruising catamaran market, she features many design elements that were very innovative at the time but are now standard on liveaboard cats.
The Freebird 50 catamaran design was developed from that of the smaller Firebird design by Modular Moldings, a blisteringly fast 25 foot open deck racing catamaran that twice won the Cowes Round the Island Race. The length and beam were doubled and a deck house added to create a strong, spacious cruising catamaran capable of taking its crew anywhere in the world.
Both boats were designed by Toby Richardson, a hugely experienced catamaran sailor and the stress calculations were handled by a former senior member of the British Aerospace engineering team which created the Concorde airliner.
Ultimately 9 Freebirds were built in Cornwall, England by Modular Mouldings Ltd, but production ceased when the moulds were destroyed in a factory fire.
"Freebird" offers the rare opportunity to own a cruising capable classic performance catamaran at an affordable price point. After some time and effort from a motivated new owner, Freebird can be returned to her former offshore cruising glory.
