Hand-laid E Glass in vinylester resin
Sandwich polymer foam core in both the hull and the deck
To avoid crushing the core and for strength, the through-hulls and deck hardware are fastened through solid glass.
Along the centerline the hull is also solid glass.
A molded liner drops in for interior stiffeners
The external lead keel is bolted to a short sump, which gives bilge water a place to go rather than sloshing around in the accommodations.
Head to port is enclosed in translucent Plexiglas opposite a large sink.
Long berths port and starboard boast ample sitting headroom
Seatbacks can be shifted inboard to make comfortable leeboards for sleeping underway.
Large area atop the lazarette aft.
The jib sheet and furling line run under the deck to the cockpit
The winch near the companionway hatch handles halyards and reefing lines.
Belowdeck headsail furling keeps the foredeck clear.

Inspired by one of Olin Stephens all-time favorite designs, BABE, a 30' wooden sloop built in 1935 for Commodore Matheson for the Miami-Bermuda race. BABE proved herself in winning races due to her plumb bow, generous sail plan, and short stern overhang. This was the last design project that Olin Stephens participated in prior to his passing away in 2008 in which simplicity, affordability, ease of sailing and the passion for sailing performance were Olin's and S&S's design objectives. The pride of ownership of such a classic design is timeless especially given the expertise of the S&S design team who has recreated BABE using modern materials, state of the art construction methods, combined with an efficient, modern rudder and keel design.
