The new Krogen 60 Open continues to build on the success of the 50 Open and will feature the same open living concept first shown on the 50, which seamlessly joins the salon and galley area with the pilothouse. As a result of the volume and use of space of the 60 Open, a day head can be easily added in the pilothouse to enhance livability while on passage or on the hook. Belowdecks, the en suite master is placed amidships and features a king-size berth to take full advantage of the 60 Open’s 19-foot, 6-inch beam. Additional highlights include twin John Deere 200-hp 4045 diesels, transoceanic range yet an island-friendly draft of less than 6 feet, and several interior layout options including a three-stateroom, three-head layout with a convertible office area. Provisions for crew accommodations are also offered abaft the engine room. A walk-in, stand-up engine room houses twin John Deer diesels and the industry’s finest systems and equipment. When experienced cruisers explore a Kadey-Krogen engine room, it’s often what they don’t see that makes as significant of an impression as what they do see. For one, we do not overload our designs with untried and unreliable equipment. To us, reliability and safety far outweigh experimenting with some new unproven piece of technology. Then everything is laid out for accessibility and ease of maintenance. The Krogen 60 Open benefits from the same attention to weight distribution and utilization on reducing weight while maximizing strength. Hull construction includes use of American-made, Cook gelcoat. Hand-laid Knytex fiberglass construction with Corecell closed-cell PVC sandwich core is utilized in the topsides. While many builders today focus on building much larger yachts in the 70-foot-plus market, Kadey-Krogen Yachts has made the deliberate business decision to concentrate its decades of experience on significant passagemakers like the 58. As a result, our customers will find a bluewater cruiser easily piloted and handled by two people without the need for additional crew. Yet the yacht is set up to accommodate a large family ready to go off the beaten path. Are you ready to start your journey? Designing a yacht intended to explore the world’s oceans is no easy feat. Every seasoned yachtsman will eventually be told that “all boats are a compromise.” At Kadey-Krogen, we view that opinion as simply giving up and not trying hard enough. For more than 45 years we have proven that it is possible to have an efficient hull design, extreme comfort while under passage and in port, all with a design that is pleasing to the eye. Coupling all of these elements together is certainly not easy, especially when you choose to build each and every 58 without compromise. Like all Kadey-Krogen models, the 58 seamlessly blends design, systems, and comforts. And we don’t see these as autonomous endeavors. For example, on a passagemaker it is preferred that the living quarters that will see significant use while on passage are concentrated in the most comfortable portion of the boat should heavy weather be encountered. Note the location of the 58’s pilothouse and galley area. This also benefits the design and weight distribution allowing an easy motion into a head sea. The deep forefoot and rounded entry of the 58 ensure there is no pounding at all. It’s a soft, easy entry into even large seas. Furthermore, the weight distribution complemented by the underbody shape eliminates any tendency for the Krogen 58 to produce any type of pitching motion. The Krogen 50 Open perfectly represents our company philosophy and dedicated focus. First it meets the first objective of delivering a comfortable and efficient long-range cruising yacht on our proven Pure Full Displacement hull form. Then it wipes the slate clean with a refreshing interior layout and use of space. The Open series draws inspiration from open-plan architecture. The pilothouse, galley, and saloon form one seamless space on the main deck, with a layout that invites entertainment and casual living on board. The main-deck interior is what sets the 50’ Open apart: The galley is located between the light-filled saloon and the pilothouse. Fit for a gourmet chef, the space is complete with a Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, Viking range, abundant storage, and 16 linear feet of counter space. The Krogen 50 Open is available with either an amidships master or an optional master-forward design. The amidships master arrangement has a retreat-like master stateroom that features an island queen berth, and an ensuite head with his-and-hers sinks, and a large walk-in shower. A spacious VIP cabin is situated forward and includes a deluxe queen berth and private head. A full-size washer and dryer and linen closet are conveniently located between the staterooms. The machinery and components we employ on the 52, and indeed every Krogen model, reflect our deep understanding that the open ocean is no place for inferior products. Highlights include John Deere engines, Northern Lights generators, ABT TRAC thrusters and stabilizers, ESI fuel-polishing systems and U.S. manufactured Cook gelcoat. All of these elements will ensure your Krogen 52 will take you the distance. Kadey-Krogen Yachts offers well-thought-out accommodations plans to tailor fit your cruising ambitions and family lifestyle. The flow from the covered aft deck, into the saloon and galley area creates an incredible amount of usable space. One mandatory element on any liveaboard passagemaker is the creation of distinct social and lounging areas to allow the crew to spread out and be apart while on passage. While the aft deck provides a perfect area to dive into the stack of books that has grown, the pilothouse settee and table could be mistaken for another main saloon area. Then a few decks down you’ll find the open office area, a trademark design feature going back to the original Krogen 42. On the 52, this area can also be converted into a third stateroom. The flybridge provides an additional social and relaxation area to spread out while headed over the horizon. A sound bluewater cruiser such as the Krogen 52 is often a sum of its parts. It’s not just one aspect or detail that makes a boat a truly successful all-ocean passagemaker, but every single element from mechanical system layout, hull design, use of interior space, and construction. Kadey-Krogen Yachts is specifically organized to ensure each and every model incorporates our decades of experience. Our project managers and in-house design and engineering staff will work with each customer to ensure their Krogen suits their specific needs, yet all of the foundational elements are already in place. For example, the entire Krogen 52 is built from only three molded pieces for maximized structural integrity. There are no additional secondary bonds or caulk joints that can inevitably cause issues. All deck and superstructures are cored and vacuum-bagged to maximize strength while minimizing weight. 1,400 gal. fuel capacity 1 x 231-hp John Deere diesel Blister-resistant vinylester resin utilized on first two laminates below the waterline, with aramid fiber reinforcements.
