Over 70k was invested to transform an already solid catboat into the fastest, easiest to handle AC24 on the water, with lux amenities that make coastal cruising a joy. The final phase was completed last winter.  This is a classic cruising catboat capable of sleeping 6, with room for 8 in the cockpit, pefect not only for cruising open water, but also for getting into shallow areas most cruisers cannot reach. With a 2' draft with the board up, you can sail right up onto the beach. With over 640 amp hours of charge from two separate arrays, extended cruising under power is finally possible under pure electric power. With no diesel smell or vibration, the QT-10 is always standing by, providing immediate torque, perfect for docking, motor sailing, pushing through tacks, getting home quickly when conditions deteriorate, or for making unexpected emergency maneuvers.  Enjoy serious cost savings with no annual commissioning or decommissioning. Just lubricate the engine, paint the bottom, step the mast, bend the sail on, and go. Switch between two battery banks to selectively control which battery powers the house and which battery powers the motor. You can also have one battery control both. She's reached 7 knots under sail and can easily reach hull speed under power, with plenty of charge to spare. With autopilot and jiffy reefing, this boat can be easily single-handed.

Freedom is a 1980 Atlantic City 24 that has been well-maintained and constantly improved for the last 17 years of operation by Captain Greg who has used it as a part-time sailing charter business – Freedom Sailing Adventures – in Merritt Island, Florida.  Captain Greg Le Sieur grew up sailing in Cape Cod and spent almost a decade aboard tall ships in his youth, often sailing as Captain on Schooners in the Maine Windjammer Trade. He has taken pride in keeping the boat ship-shape and user-friendly.   Please see our website – www.freedomsailingadventures.com – for further details.  High Sailing Performance and Easy Handling – Captain Greg has sailed Freedom taking guests out in all kinds of weather single-handedly since 2008.  She is easy to handle by oneself, with both halyards, topping lift, and main sheet being handled from the cockpit. The boom is above head level so there is no need for guests to “duck” when tacking.  She sails well on all points of sail, but especially loves a broad reach.  Upwind she keeps up with other sailboats, downwind she passes them all.   The Engine – A Westerbeke 35D3 engine was installed June, 2024.  This engine is a Very Young Engine – ONLY 154.2 hours! Most Atlantic City 24’s have 12 or 17 hp engines.  The Westerbeke 35D3 is 31 hp. It will give you plenty of power when you need it compared to other Atlantic City 24’s. The Transmission is a PRM Newage 120 in good shape. The Centerboard – The Centerboard was replaced with a new one about 10 years ago.  It is in very good shape.  The top of it is 316 marine-grade stainless steel, which corrects a weak link in some other Atlantic City 24’s where the cable can break off from the centerboard due to rust. The Sail Cover and Deck Cushion Covers – New Sail Cover and Deck Cushion Covers were installed about 5 years ago. The Rudder – This Atlantic City 24 Rudder is stronger than rudders on other Atlantic City 24’s because of 2 steel plates (316 marine-grade stainless steel) installed to correct a weak link that can be found in other Atlantic City 24 rudders.  The Sail – The Sail is in good shape with no tears.  A leach line was installed on the sail’s leach about 7 years ago.  The sail’s leach therefore does not flap (as in some other Atlantic City 24’s) in a stiff breeze. The Rigging and Sailing Hardware – All new stainless-steel eyebolts aloft on the mast were installed in January, 2021.  Blocks are all in good shape. Forestay is in good shape.   Throat and peak halyards, topping lift, and main sheet are in good shape. The Batteries – New batteries were installed in 2024.  The Hull and Centerboard - Haulout and Inspection 2024. Freedom was hauled out in November 2024, and meticulously cared for. Marine Surveyor Rick Hughes of Atlas Yacht Service, Cape Canaveral, reported the hull and centerboard were in great shape.  1 Coat Epoxy Primer and 3 Coats Odyssey HD Multi-Season Ablative Bottom Paint were applied.  Also a new 1” zinc on propeller shaft.   Sleeping Accommodations - This Atlantic City 24 is equipped with a spacious bunk starboard side aft.  Additionally, the galley table lifts out if desired to create a second bunk. The Holding Tank – The holding tank is easily removable for taking ashore for discharge and cleaning.  This eliminates the “smell” of a holding tank found in other boats. Freedom is an absolutely majestic vessel and in great shape for anyone to sail.  With only a 2’ draft with the centerboard up she can go almost anywhere.  With a rounded hull she takes all seas gracefully and comfortably. With an 11’ beam she has plenty of space for many people to spread out on deck or below. With a 471 sq. ft. gaff-rigged mainsail she glides along peacefully through the water in very little breeze.  And reefed she has also been easy to handle even in up to 30 knots.  I’m sure any who wish to own and sail her will be thrilled with her.
